Aoshima, on the southern coast of Miyazaki, is one of Kyushu’s most family-friendly beach destinations: shallow water, soft sand, palm-lined boulevard, and a 5-minute walk from Aoshima Shrine on its rocky islet. With kids, staying in Aoshima itself (rather than commuting from Miyazaki city) doubles the beach time and removes the morning drive.
This guide covers three Aoshima-area stays for families, each with different trade-offs between price, beach access, and amenities.
Why Aoshima works for families
Most Aoshima hotels are 5–10 minutes from the beach, with kids pools, beach gear rental, and family-room layouts. Compared to Miyazaki city stays, you trade some restaurant variety for direct beach access — usually worth it with kids under 10.
- Beach access: most hotels have direct or 5-min-walk paths to Aoshima Beach Park
- Pool options: 2 of the 3 below have kids pools — useful in October when sea is cool
- Best months: late June–early September (peak swimming); shoulder month November (warm enough for sand-play, less crowded)
- Walking distance: Aoshima Station to beach 8 min; most hotels in between
