Okinawa has dozens of beach resorts, but only some of them work well for families. Resorts differ a lot on indoor pools, kids’ clubs, rooms that sleep four and how long the drive from Naha Airport is with tired kids in the back.
We compared the main family resorts on Okinawa’s main island using each hotel’s own facility pages, checked in October 2026. Pools and programs change with the seasons, so the dates that matter are listed below.
What Is the Best Family Resort in Okinawa? (Quick Answer)
For most families, Renaissance Okinawa Resort in Onna is the safest all-round pick: it has an indoor pool with slides for rainy days and is about an hour from Naha Airport. Choose Hilton Okinawa Chatan for the shortest drive (about 40 minutes), Hotel Orion Motobu for Churaumi Aquarium days, and the Oriental Hotel Okinawa (formerly the Okinawa Marriott) for its 47.5 m pool slide.
Okinawa Family Resorts Compared
Drive times are from Naha Airport by car. “Indoor pool” matters more than people expect: outdoor pools at most resorts close somewhere between November and March.

If you are still choosing a region rather than a hotel, our guide to where to stay in Okinawa with kids compares Naha, Onna and Chatan side by side.
Best All-Rounder: Renaissance Okinawa Resort (Onna)
Renaissance is the resort we suggest when a family can only pick one. Its indoor pool has a 5 m slide and a 15 m loop slider, so a rainy afternoon is still a pool afternoon, and the outdoor pool has a shallow kids’ area.
- Kids’ extras: Dolphin programs and a “Job Challenge” activity for children. Both cost extra.
- Rooms: Connecting rooms and 54 m² Japanese-style rooms that sleep up to five.
- Watch for: The resort’s marine programs pause from 1 December 2026 to 20 March 2027 for maintenance, so check which activities run on your dates.

Shortest Drive: Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort (Chatan)
At about 40 minutes from the airport, the Hilton is the easiest arrival on a late flight. It sits right next to American Village, so dinner, ice cream and the Sunset Beach promenade are all walkable.
- Pools: A lagoon-style outdoor pool with slides in several sizes, plus an indoor pool open all year.
- Good to know: There is no beach of its own (Sunset Beach is a short walk), no childcare, and parking has cost ¥500 a night since May 2026.
- Rooms: Connecting rooms are available on request.

Best Pool Slide: Oriental Hotel Okinawa Resort & Spa (Nago)
Many guides still call this the Okinawa Marriott. It was renamed the Oriental Hotel Okinawa Resort & Spa in October 2021 and fully renovated by 2024.
- Pools: The garden pool has a 47.5 m slide and a shallow kids’ pool. The indoor pool is open year-round, and from 1 July to 31 October the garden pool stays open until 22:00.
- For little ones: A children’s playroom for ages up to elementary school. It is not staffed, so a parent stays with the kids.
- Location: About 70 minutes by expressway, which makes it a good halfway base for the north.

Best for Churaumi Aquarium: Hotel Orion Motobu Resort & Spa
If the aquarium is the highlight of your trip, sleeping next to it turns a long day trip into a short walk. Emerald Beach is about two minutes away on foot.
- Rooms: The Ocean Kids Room (57 m²) sleeps up to five, and several other room types sleep four.
- Pools: An outdoor pool from late March to October with a 0.3 m kids’ pool, and an indoor pool all year. The infinity pool is for Club Wing guests only, and under-12s can’t use it after 18:00.
- Extras: A free kids’ playroom (not staffed) and a direct shuttle to JUNGLIA.
- Watch for: It is about 100 minutes from the airport, and the whole hotel closes from 11 to 13 January 2027 for an inspection.

Best Island-Resort Feel: Hyatt Regency Seragaki Island (Onna)
The Hyatt sits on its own small island linked to the coast by a bridge, about an hour from the airport. The airport limousine bus stops at the hotel, which helps if you’re not renting a car for the first day.
- Pools: An outdoor pool with a shallow kids’ section, a lagoon pool with paddle boats, and a 1.2 m indoor pool.
- Kids’ club: Camp Hyatt, currently listed for ages 4 and up.
- Rooms: Beach House rooms (55–75 m²) have kitchens, which makes toddler meals much easier.
- Watch for: The outdoor pools close after 30 November 2026 and are planned to reopen on 19 March 2027.

Best for Summer Beach Days: ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort (Onna)
Manza wraps around its own beach, and the beach pool has a kids’ pool and lifeguards. It is a great summer choice and a weaker winter one.
- Kids Playland: Ages 1–12, ¥1,500 per child for hotel guests.
- Rooms: Classic rooms are only 32 m², so families of four should look at larger categories. Some categories connect, and under-12s stay free using existing beds.
- Watch for: The resort has no indoor pool, and the beach pool closes from 1 November until mid-March.

Best for Big Families: Kanucha Resort (Nago)
Kanucha is a large, spread-out resort on the east coast, with carts to get around and its own airport shuttle (about 80 minutes).
- Rooms: The Deluxe Family room is 66 m² and sleeps up to six. It has no kitchen.
- Water play: Garden, beachside and indoor pools, including a 50 cm kids’ pool. The Water Kids Garden costs extra (¥3,000 per child and ¥3,500 per adult, higher in peak season).
- Beach season: The beach is open for swimming from 29 March to 31 October in 2026.

Visiting in Winter? Pick a Resort With an Indoor Pool
Okinawa is warm by Japanese standards in winter, but most outdoor resort pools close. This is the season that catches families out. As of October 2026:
- Indoor pool open all year: Oriental Hotel Okinawa, Hotel Orion Motobu, Hilton Okinawa Chatan.
- Indoor pool with slides: Renaissance Okinawa.
- Outdoor pools closed in winter: Hyatt Regency Seragaki (1 Dec 2026 to 18 Mar 2027), Hotel Nikko Alivila (January and February), ANA InterContinental Manza (from 1 November, no indoor pool).
Winter is also whale season around the Kerama Islands, from late December to early April. Our Okinawa whale watching guide covers which port to leave from with kids.
Booking Tips for Okinawa Family Resorts
- Ask for connecting rooms directly. Booking sites rarely show them. See our guide to connecting and family rooms in Okinawa.
- Check which pools are open on your dates. Seasons differ by resort and by pool within the same resort.
- Budget for paid kids’ programs. Kids’ clubs and water parks at these resorts usually cost extra, from about ¥1,500 to ¥12,000 per child.
- Rent a car for anywhere north of Chatan. Most of these resorts are 60–100 minutes from the airport, and buses are slow with luggage. Our getting around Okinawa guide covers car seats and the expressway.
- Book summer early. Family rooms at the beach resorts go first for July, August and Japanese holiday weeks.
