Okinawa doesn’t do giant mainland-style water parks. What it does instead is resort pools — lagoon pools with waterslides, kids’ splash zones, and indoor pools for rainy days.
Better still, many of them let you swim on a day pass without booking a hotel night, so a pool day can slot into any itinerary.
This guide maps every practical option: which resort pools sell day passes, which have real slides, and which stay open in winter.
We travel Okinawa with kids often, so this is the shortlist we actually use — and you can check live rates for every pool resort below on Agoda as you read.
The short version: what counts as an Okinawa “water park” (Quick Answer)

The best water-park experience in Okinawa is a resort pool, not a standalone park. Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort has a lagoon pool with two slides, a 0–40 cm kids’ pool and a 10 cm baby pool.
Sheraton Sun Marina runs a large garden pool in Onna, and Kanucha Bay in Nago has the island’s biggest pool complex.
The important correction to most guides: true non-guest day passes are rarer than they look. Hilton Chatan and Kanucha’s garden pool are for staying guests (or a paid plan) only; Kanucha’s indoor pool and the Sheraton do sell visitor access. Outdoor pools broadly run spring to late autumn — Hilton Chatan’s runs mid-March to the end of November — with hours from about 8:30–19:30 at the height of summer.
Booking the resort night itself is the only way to guarantee pool access — compare Okinawa pool resorts on Agoda before you lock in dates.
Water park vs beach: which is right for your kids?

Pools win when your kids are toddlers, when jellyfish are around, or when the sea is choppy. They’re calm, shallow at one end, and lifeguarded.
Beaches win for space and cost. If jellyfish season is a worry, read our guide to jellyfish, habu and beach flags in Okinawa before you pick a swim spot.
- Under 4: a resort pool with a shallow kids’ zone — Hilton Chatan’s 10 cm baby pool is the shallowest on this list.
- Ages 5–10: a lagoon pool with a slide (Hilton Chatan; the biggest slide needs 120 cm or an adult alongside).
- Rainy or winter days: a year-round indoor heated pool — Kanucha Bay, Sheraton Sun Marina and Hilton Chatan all have one.
Want a water day that isn’t a pool at all? Snorkel trips, glass-bottom boats and banana-boat rides are bookable in advance — see Okinawa family water activities on Klook.
Best day-pass hotel pools in Okinawa

These resorts either sell a non-guest day pass or let outside families in during peak season. Policies change year to year, so call or check before you drive out.
Outdoor pool seasons track the official beach-opening (umibiraki) season but each hotel sets its own dates — Kanucha opened its garden pool on 29 March 2026 and closes it on 31 October, while Hilton Chatan runs from mid-March to 30 November. Indoor pools at those resorts stay open all year.
Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort — lagoon pool with a slide
The most “water park” of the bunch: a lagoon pool with two slides, a kids’ pool with its own small slide, and a separate baby pool, all a short walk from American Village restaurants (official facilities page).
- Address: 沖縄県中頭郡北谷町美浜40-1
- Depths: lagoon 1 m, kids’ pool 0–40 cm, baby pool 10 cm, cascade pool 1.2 m. The largest slide needs 120 cm or a parent riding along.
- Outdoor season 2026: 20 March–30 November, closing 1 December until mid-March 2027. Hours shift by month — 9:00–17:00 in March/April and November, 9:00–19:30 in late June/July, 8:30–19:00 in August.
- Indoor pool: a 17 m heated pool (1.2 m) with sauna, open year round, 9:00–20:00.
- Day pass: the pools are for staying guests or people on a “pool swim included” plan — there is no walk-up day ticket, though lunch-buffet-plus-pool plans are sold and also cover the adjacent DoubleTree’s two outdoor pools.
- Rules: under-16s need an adult in the water; swim nappies required; towels, rings, caps, kickboards and arm floats are lent free.
If you want to stay walkable to the shops and beach, our guide to family hotels in Chatan and American Village covers the whole strip. See Hilton Chatan and nearby family rooms on Agoda.
Sheraton Okinawa Sun Marina Resort — Onna garden pool
A resort-scale outdoor pool complex on the Onna coast with a kids’ area and a private-ish cove beach. Good for a full day.
- Address: 沖縄県国頭郡恩納村富着66-1
- Season: the garden pool runs roughly late March to the end of October; the indoor pool in the Wellness & Spa Nuchigusui building is a year-round 30°C pool with a jacuzzi and a kids’ pool, max depth 1.2 m
- Day pass: non-guests use the indoor pool by buying the hotel’s Resort Pass, which also covers the large bath and some activities — confirm the current price with the hotel
Rizzan Sea-Park Hotel Tancha Bay — family value in Onna
Renovation notice (October 2026): Rizzan is partway through a roughly 18-month renovation to reopen as Okinawa Marriott Rizzan Resort & Spa. The indoor pool and the seaside restaurant are closed while the work runs, so check the hotel’s notices before you plan around its facilities.
A long-running family favourite with a large garden pool and one of Okinawa’s better-value family rates.
- Address: 沖縄県国頭郡恩納村谷茶1496
- Best for: toddlers and multi-generation groups — and it is the easiest of the Onna group to use in bad weather, because its indoor heated pool runs all year, 9:00–19:00 (9:00–21:00 in July and August), with a separate children’s pool
- Rules: elementary-age and younger need an adult with them, and a parent must be in the water with preschoolers or non-swimmers; tattoos must be covered. Rings, jackets, goggles and swimsuits are rented on site.
- Day pass: non-guest pool tickets are sold — ring the hotel for the current rate, as it is not published on the pool page
This is the one families book when the budget matters — check Rizzan and other Onna resort rates on Agoda.
Kanucha Bay Hotel & Villas — the biggest pool garden
Up in Nago, Kanucha runs a sprawling set of pools — a garden pool, a beach-side pool, a water kids’ garden and a year-round indoor pool — the closest thing Okinawa has to a resort water park.
- Address: 沖縄県名護市字安部156-2
- Garden pool 2026: 29 March–31 October, 10:00–17:00 outside high summer and 9:00–18:00 from 19 July to 31 August. It is free but for staying guests only (official page).
- Indoor pool: open all year at about 30°C, 10:00–22:00 (14:00–22:00 in early May–mid July and October, 10:00–18:00 from 19 July to 30 September). Non-guests pay ¥3,630 for adults and ¥1,210 for ages 5–12; staying guests pay ¥1,800/¥600 (official page).
- Rules: under-16s need an adult 18 or over with them (a non-swimming parent is free), a parent must swim with under-12s, and anyone under 130 cm wears arm floats.
Renaissance Okinawa Resort & Hotel Moon Beach — calm-cove classics
Both sit on sheltered Onna coves with kids’ pools, and the Renaissance has indoor as well as outdoor pools. The Renaissance also runs dolphin programmes kids love, and those slots need booking well in advance.
- Renaissance address: 沖縄県国頭郡恩納村山田3425-2
- Dolphin programs: reservation required, usually guest-priority
- Day access: treat both as stay-to-swim properties and confirm with the hotel before driving out
Loisir Hotel & Spa Tower Naha — closed for rebuilding until summer 2027
Do not plan a swim here right now. The hotel is gutting and rebuilding its whole pool area, and has announced that the indoor and outdoor pools are closed from 13 October 2026 until 31 May 2027, with reopening planned for early summer 2027. Ticket sales for the pool and the Shimanchu-no-yu bath have already ended (official notice).
- Address: 沖縄県那覇市西3-2-1
- Until 12 October 2026: the outdoor pool (24 × 23 m, deepest point 1.3 m) is open to staying guests 10:00–20:00 and to day visitors 10:00–18:00 last entry, with a ten-minute rest break every 50 minutes from 11:00
- Rules while it is open: tattoos must be covered by a rash guard or patch, children under 12 or under 140 cm need an adult of 18+ in the water with them, and swim nappies are required
- The rest of the hotel — rooms and restaurants — carries on as normal through the works
For a wet-weather swim in the meantime, the year-round indoor pools at Kanucha Bay, Sheraton Sun Marina and Hilton Chatan are the alternatives.
See our Okinawa rainy-season family guide for more wet-weather swims.
Vessel Hotel Campana Okinawa — rooftop pool in Chatan
Budget-friendlier, with a rooftop pool and kids-stay-free rates right by American Village.
- Address: 沖縄県中頭郡北谷町美浜9-22
- Rooftop pool: seasonal, with the hotel listing roughly April to October
- Day pass: the pool is for guests — book the night to swim. The top-floor bath, by contrast, does take day visitors (¥900 in the morning slot, ¥1,300 in the afternoon slot, with blackout dates)
Booking your pool day or resort stay
Day-pass pricing and hours shift every season, so book the resort night through a hotel platform if you want the pool guaranteed.
You can compare family rooms and pool access across these properties on Agoda’s Okinawa hotel list. For a night-free swim, call the front desk to confirm the current day-pass rate first.
Filling the non-pool half of the day? Aquarium tickets, jungle parks and boat tours are cheaper pre-booked — browse Okinawa attraction tickets on Klook, and if you’re driving between Onna and Nago, lock in a family rental car with child seats early — summer stock runs out.

These are the operators’ published 2026 positions, checked in September 2026; kids are usually half-price or free under a set age. Because most of these pools are guest-only or plan-only, the reliable move is to book the night — compare all seven pool resorts on Agoda here.
What day passes actually cost

There is no single Okinawa price, and the published non-guest rates are higher than most guides suggest. The two figures the hotels actually print are Kanucha’s indoor pool at ¥3,630 for adults and ¥1,210 for ages 5–12, and the Sheraton’s Resort Pass. Everywhere else either restricts the pool to staying guests or quotes on request.
- Peak (July–August, Obon): longest hours, busiest, book the room ahead.
- Shoulder (April–June, September–October): outdoor pools still open, far quieter.
- Winter: outdoor pools shut — Hilton Chatan’s closes 1 December — but the indoor pools at Kanucha, the Sheraton and Hilton Chatan run all year.
Two adults plus two kids on a day pass often lands within ¥2,000–3,000 of a discounted resort night — which is why comparing Okinawa resort rates on Agoda is worth doing before you commit to a pass.

Packing and safety for pool days

Okinawa sun is strong even by the pool. Many resorts require reef-safe sunscreen and swim shirts, so pack rash guards.
Our reef-safe sunscreen and rash-guard guide covers the rules property by property.
- Rash guards for every kid (sunburn and slide-rash protection).
- Water shoes for hot poolside decks.
- Arm floats — not all kids’ zones are ankle-deep.
- Cash for lockers and snack bars.

Flying down for a few nights? A prepaid data eSIM or pocket Wi-Fi is the cheapest way to check pool hours and weather radar on the road.
Frequently Asked Questions

Does Okinawa have a real water park with big slides?
Not a standalone mainland-style one. The closest experiences are resort pool complexes — Kanucha Bay’s cluster of pools in Nago and Hilton Okinawa Chatan’s lagoon pool, which has two slides plus separate kids’ and baby pools.
Can you use a hotel pool in Okinawa without staying overnight?
Less often than you would hope. Kanucha’s indoor pool sells visitor tickets year-round, and the Sheraton admits visitors on its Resort Pass, but Hilton Chatan, Kanucha’s garden pool and the Vessel Campana rooftop pool are all restricted to staying guests or a paid plan.
Always phone the front desk to confirm the current day-pass rate before driving out, or simply book a night at the resort on Agoda to guarantee access.
How much is a pool day pass in Okinawa?
Where a published rate exists, it is around ¥3,600 for an adult and ¥1,200 for a child at Kanucha’s indoor pool; other properties either bundle pool access into a lunch or resort pass or quote on request. Assume ¥2,000–¥4,000 per adult and confirm before you drive out.
Which Okinawa pool is best for toddlers?
Look for a shallow dedicated kids’ zone. Hilton Chatan is the strongest on paper — a 0–40 cm children’s pool and a separate 10 cm baby pool — and Renaissance Okinawa in Onna has gentle kids’ pools indoors and out.
Are there indoor pools in Okinawa for rainy days?
Yes — but not at Loisir Naha, whose pools are closed for rebuilding until summer 2027. The year-round indoor pools are at Kanucha Bay (about 30°C), Sheraton Sun Marina and Hilton Okinawa Chatan (a 17 m heated pool with sauna).
When are outdoor pools open in Okinawa?
Longer than the beach season suggests. Kanucha ran its garden pool from 29 March to 31 October in 2026, and Hilton Chatan runs from mid-March to 30 November before closing until mid-March.
Hours peak in August — Hilton Chatan opens at 8:30 and closes at 19:00 — and shrink to about 9:00–17:00 at either end of the season. Indoor pools stay open year-round; check each property directly.
Do I need to reserve an Okinawa pool day pass in advance?
The bigger question is whether a day pass exists at all, since Hilton Chatan and Kanucha’s garden pool are guest-only. Where visitors are admitted, ring ahead on summer weekends and over Obon — capacity is capped and pool areas can be closed for maintenance or weather at short notice.
Is a pool safer than the beach for kids in Okinawa?
Often, yes. Pools are lifeguarded, calm, and jellyfish-free, which matters in stinger season. Beaches offer more space and lower cost, but the sea can be choppy and jellyfish nets aren’t everywhere.
Do Okinawa pools require reef-safe sunscreen and swim shirts?
Many do. Resorts increasingly ask for reef-safe sunscreen, and some require rash guards for kids on slides. Pack swim shirts and a reef-safe product to avoid being turned away or asked to rinse off.
